Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain Crowns

A dental crown is a covering that completely encases the tooth, restoring it to its original size and shape or in the case of cosmetic enhancements, enhancing its size and shape. A crown strengthens and protects tooth structure that cannot be restored by more conservative treatments, such as fillings, inlays, or onlays. Several types of dental crowns are available. Here at Happy Smile Clinics, we only use Zirconia Porcelain or E.max® Porcelain Crowns, because these most closely match the natural color of your teeth. Porcelain crowns are also quite durable, and with reasonable care, they can last many years. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cover’ that is precision bonded over the damaged tooth to protect it from further damage. We use the procedure to help restore fractured, very heavily filled, or damaged teeth whilst ensuring the shade of the crown matches the rest of your smile. Porcelain crowns extend the natural life of broken or failing teeth by acting protecting against further damage. And when teeth are missing or must be extracted, our dental bridges fill the gap using the teeth on either side for long-term support.

Over the past few years, there has been an increased demand for metal-free restorations. Patients have become more concerned about the presence of metal in their mouths and want to receive the most aesthetically pleasing restorations. This demand has been accommodated with the introduction of newer and stronger ceramics such as Zirconia and E.max®, replacing older style feldspathic and leucite-based restorations. These materials offer superior strength and fit, combined with excellent aesthetics. Over the past decade, the companies providing metal-free ceramics have continually updated their products. The latest generation of materials provides improved opalescence, combined with lifelike shades and translucencies. All-ceramic restorations are healthier for gum tissues and provide long-lasting and reliable results. The lack of metal results in zero darkness around the gum margins and light is transmitted through these materials in a way that closely
replicates a natural tooth.

As with natural teeth, and any type of dental restoration for that matter, porcelain crowns, and caps require proper maintenance in the form of brushing and flossing. Our porcelain crowns are constructed to accurately match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth, thereby giving you a beautiful, long-lasting smile.

Porcelain crowns are very similar to veneers in that they can be used to transform the appearance of an unaesthetic smile into a beautiful, natural smile that you can be proud of for the long term. In addition, crowns are very tough & durable, and they are usually used when the natural teeth have become extremely worn or broken down.

Why Would You Need a Porcelain Crown?

  • Restoring the tooth after root canal therapy
  • Fitting bridges
  • Other dental implants and older dental work utilizing metal
  • Partial dentures
  • Replacing teeth damaged by accidents
  • Some people even choose to get porcelain crowns due to discoloration of their teeth or other aesthetic reasons.

Your teeth may have been repaired with a filling years ago. At that time, parts of the tooth were drilled out and restored with a filling. Over time, the structure of the tooth weakens and may crack. This can allow cavities to form inside the tooth, causing further damage. If decay infects the pulp and nerve structure of the tooth, your dentist may need to perform a root canal procedure. In many cases following root canal therapy, the tooth needs to be restored for proper dental health and to maintain a beautiful Hollywood Smile and Cosmetic Smile Makeovers.
